In the past two decades, blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) has become an effective, life-saving procedure for a number of malignant and non-malignant diseases. BMT offers hope to many patients whose cancers are otherwise incurable. BMT allows for the safe use of very high doses of chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy in patients whose tumors have developed resistance to standard doses of chemotherapy and radiation. For many patients with hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, BMT is the only curative option.
Our full-service BMT program offers a complete array of transplant options including bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells and cord blood transplant from related or unrelated donors (allogeneic), from identical twins (syngeneic), or the patient (autologous).

The members of The University of Arizona Cancer Center Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant Team are experts in bone marrow, stem cell and cord blood transplantation. In addition to the attending physician, patients receive personalized care from our knowledgeable and professional staff members including the program’s nurse practitioners, RN BMT nurse coordinators, unit nurses, nutritionists, physical therapists, BMT social workers, pharmacists and BMT financial coordinators. The resources of clinical pathology, radiation oncology, and virology provide essential services.
