Christina Laukaitis, MD, PhD, FACP, has been named a '40 Under 40' winner by the Arizona Daily Star for 2011.
Dr. Laukaitis was selected from a group of 250 young leaders nominated for their professional accomplishments, leadership qualities and community impact. She and the other winners will be honored at a breakfast Oct. 6.
Dr. Laukaitis is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is a member of the Arizona Cancer Center’s Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Program and is a member of the Cancer Center’s High-Risk Clinic multidisciplinary team. Her research interests are in genetic risk factor for colon cancer and in targeting chemoprevention strategies.
She is board certified in internal medicine and medical genetics. Earlier this year, Dr. Laukaitis was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the largest medical specialty society in the country. She also was the first recipient of the Arizona Cancer Center's Yellen Young Investigator Award, named for AZCC board member Barry Yellen, and his wife, Pat.
