The Arizona Cancer Center and UA College of Medicine are participating extensively in the 4th International Symposium on Cancer Metastasis and the Lymphovascular System: Basis for Rational Therapy, which will be held May 12-14, at the InterContinental New York Barclay in New York City.
This CME-certified conference is designed for U.S. and international physicians and researchers involved in all oncology disciplines and subspecialties, including medical, surgical and radiation oncologists; general surgeons; pathologists; radiologists and other translational-oriented laboratory scientists; as well as nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants and other health-care professionals involved in cancer care and research.
The symposium will begin Thursday with a late-breaking mini-symposium featuring discussion including the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) co-authors of the results from the recent highly publicized sentinel lymph node trials, followed that evening by a mini-symposium, “Melanoma Progression,” which emphasizes that malignant melanoma is an important clinical model to study cancer metastasis.
The symposium’s comprehensive schedule includes cutting-edge faculty presentations supplemented by distinguished guest lectures, expert panel discussions, attendee poster exhibits, mini-symposia and a young Investigators/Residents/Fellows/Trainees poster exhibits and awards program. The meeting also will also provide ample time for questions and answers and networking with presenters and authors.
Topics will include: biomarkers and informatics; molecular mechanisms of tumor progression in the tumor microenvironment; biomarkers for lymphatic development, growth and neoplasia; lymphangiogenesis, angiogenesis and anti-angiogenesis; lymphatics and the immune system as a barrier to cancer spread; biomarkers for sentinel lymph nodes as primary gateways for metastasis; patterns of lymphatic and vascular spread of cancer; biomarkers as targets for radioimaging; biomarkers as specific treatment targets; biomarker surrogates and targets in clinical cancer trials; molecular mechanisms of metastasis; updated approaches to managing metastatic melanoma, colorectal and breast cancer; and lymphatic complications of cancer and cancer treatment including lymphedema.
