The Department of Radiation Oncology now offers Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx™) by Xoft, Inc. This is a new technology for the treatment of some skin cancers (basal and squamous cell carcinomas). The eBx™ technology is a superficial form of electronic radiotherapy applied directly to the cancerous site. It is painless and usually takes only a few minutes and for most cancers and is given in eight separate doses.
eBx™ provides new options for:
- Patients with cosmetically sensitive lesions not interested in or unable to have surgery
- When resection of larger lesions on the lips, eyelids or ears is difficult or impossible for necessary function
- More desirable cosmetic outcomes
