Michael A. Bookman, MD, has joined the Arizona Cancer Center as chief of the Hematology/Oncology section. He has been appointed professor of medicine at the University of Arizona and will head the Department of Medicine’s Hematology/Oncology section.
In this role, Dr. Bookman will lead the 28 clinical and research faculty within the section and will join the leadership team of the Arizona Cancer Center.
“As a close friend and long-term research colleague, I have come to know Michael as a brilliant clinical and translational researcher, especially in women’s cancers. He brings to the Arizona Cancer Center well-honed, in-depth clinical and informatics operation skills,” said David S. Alberts, MD, director of the Arizona Cancer Center.
Dr. Bookman most recently was vice president for ambulatory care and clinical research at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where he had served since 1988. He is a renowned expert in gynecological medical oncology and will continue his clinical and research practices at the Arizona Cancer Center. His interests include developmental therapeutics, medical informatics and international outreach in gynecologic cancer management and collaborative research.
“After 21 years, it was a special combination of vision, opportunity, human factors, academic strength and clinical excellence that challenged me to relocate to Arizona. I am truly looking forward to meeting and interacting with many new colleagues at the Arizona Cancer Center as we strive for excellence in clinical care and high-priority research,” Dr. Bookman said.
Dr. Bookman received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and earned bachelor and master’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
